|Have you got some basic navigation skills but want to take them to the next level?
Join us for a day’s walk (approx 6 miles) on the moors above Gunnerside where we will look at more precise use of the map (micro-navigation), do on-going route planning, use a compass, learn techniques for poor visibility, use a GPS (bring one with you if you have one), and learn what to do in emergencies. Being able to read a map would be useful but is not essential.
You will need to be suitably equipped (clothing, waterproofs & footwear) for walking in rough terrain, and in the weather conditions at the time. Please also bring a packed lunch, goodies for in-between times, and drinks.
If you have a 1:25000 OS Outdoor Leisure 30 (central / North Swaledale), compass (SILVA type 3 or equivalent), bring them along, but Alan will provide printed maps and does have some compasses to lend out.
